Power of Attorney (POA) (EN)
A legal instrument authorising one person (the agent/attorney-in-fact) to act on behalf of another (the principal) in specified legal, financial, or business matters. In the UAE, POAs must be notarised by a Notary Public at the UAE courts and are classified as: general POA (broad authority across multiple transactions) or special POA (limited to a specific transaction or act). For real estate transactions, a specific POA registered with the Dubai Land Department is required. Cross-border POAs (e.g., executed in France for use in the UAE) must be apostilled under the Hague Convention, translated into Arabic by a certified translator, and attested by the UAE Embassy. POAs are critical for foreign investors managing UAE business interests remotely.
