Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 (as amended by Federal Decree-Law No. 44 of 2024), the UAE's comprehensive data protection framework establishing rules for the collection, processing, storage, and transfer of personal data. The law applies to data controllers and processors in the UAE and to those outside the UAE who process the data of UAE residents. Key principles include: lawfulness, fairness, transparency, purpose limitation, data minimisation, accuracy, storage limitation, and security. The UAE Data Office is the supervisory authority responsible for implementation and enforcement.
